Comparing the book with the clip or even movie makes me think of how did I think the environment and the characters would look like in "real life." The adventures we've been reading are crazy and we all know that. We can't never predict what's coming next. Crazy creatures and different places come and go the same way that Alice grows and shrinks with no order or coherence.
While I was reading the book I never pictured the Hatter being such a bizarre creature. I knew that in the movie Johnny Depp was the Hatter. I see that Tim Burton had to make it kind of more commercial and interesting so people would watch it, but made it look too sinister at times. Even the Dormouse, that's falling asleep every minute in the book, doesn't feel tired at all in the clip. He seems really energetic and awake, instead.
Alice was also really welcome at the tea party which differs from the book where they didn't make her feel welcome even for minute.
A production like this one had to adapted to be able to attract a larger public, Tim Burton had his own version. If people liked it, it's all that matters.
